Hey everybody!
As you all know, I recently went to Tokyo and decided to create an itinerary for you guys! Initially, the itinerary was roughly scribbled, by Syam and myself, in a notebook. Then I figured it would be good to share it with all of you! Not just for this trip, but for potential trips. Although it took me 5 months to complete it, it's here now and thats all that matters!
In the itinerary, i've not only included places we've been to/worth seeing, but also included what stations and lines to take, tips, recommendations, and my personal favourites!
However, please understand that it was impossible for me to list down every single shop/cafe we visited because there was just too many! The ones I've mentioned are the places I planned to visit before the trip, but you can check out where else I've visited by watching my vlogs. I vlogged daily so you can see first hand what my friends and I got up to!
With that, there are still a couple things I would like to share with all of you (that I couldn't fit inside the itinerary) :
1. DISNEYSEA is a must-see
This is very important, you will not regret it! IMHO, Disneysea is sooo much better than Disneyland (and thats coming from a Disney fan ok, so please 'listen, Linda, listen')! The entire park is amazing! and not to mention, it is the ONLY Disneysea in the world.
Plus! It is catered to an older audience, so you know the rides are good! I'm actually very selective when it comes to rollercoasters (eg: no drops, no harnesses that don't cover your entire body, no viking ships, no spinning tops) but I actually psyched myself up this time 'round. No ragrets.
I got so excited, and decided to watch Youtube videos about Disneysea and came across a couple of videos about this one ride called the Tower of Terror. It is a drop ride, fyi, and as mentioned before.. it was not on my list of acceptable rollercoasters. I don't know what came over me (maybe it was the excitement of being surrounded by all things Disney, or Disney's magic somehow made me fearless) but I rode it! Though I did regret mid-ride.
As the trolley/lift was ascending to the highest peak. It had become very real that there was no escape! So, I grabbed on to whatever I could hold on to (including my friend's handles), and braced myself for the sudden droooooooooooooooooooooooooooooop! Holy sh*t! I still cannot put into words how the ride was, you have to experience it for yourself. It was just so intense!! I just remembered screaming for help, screaming how much I regretted this, all whilst trying to grab hold of everything and anything I could, even though I was already holding on to another thing. The feeling was just so confusing, that in the end all I could do was laugh. After the ride ended, we were all laughing and out of breath. Despite all that, I can honestly say that the Tower of Terror is the most memorable ride I've ever been on, and I would 100% recommend it!
There's a surprise as well but I won't spoil that for you, so leave a comment on my channel, or dm me on my Instagram once you've been on it and we'll see if you know what I know~
2. Always WALK
Every place I've listed in the itinerary is close to each other and within walking distance. I've arranged it this way not just to save on train fares, but because Japan is just so beautiful! It would be a shame not to walk. Especially during the season that we went - Spring. You can find Instagram-worthy places, cute cafes, hidden thrift stores, and you just never know what you'll see! So, don't forget to bring your camera, and a jacket! Some places are colder and windier. (Ive mentioned my favourite places to walk, inside the vlogs as well)
3. Wear COMFY shoes
Once again, you will do A LOT of walking (refer to point no.2).
Ive made the mistake before, but I guess you can always buy a new pair of shoes since Japan IS one of the best places to get your kicks.
4. DON'T buy everything at one shop
Japan is full of things to buy and it's best not to blow all your money in one day, or one place! With that, we spent our free days revisiting shops to get the items we can't stop thinking of. If you think twice about an item, then don't get it. If it's bugging you, and you can't find it anywhere else then go back! Go back and get it!
Ive always set a budget for each day and then carry forward the remaining amount. So, I'll have a little more to spend another day, or get what I really want. I honestly love spending an extra day, or two, which is why I set free and easy(s). It just feels nice to not wake up early, and use the day going back to places where you're slightly more familiar with, and do whatever you want! Everywhere in Japan is easily accessible by train so take that free day(s) to revisit shops.
5. The TRAINS are really convenient
Get yourself a Suica card and you're good to go! These Suica cards are prepaid, so put in any amount you want, and top up as it depletes. You can get them at the airport, or any JR station.
The JR lines are coloured which is really easy to read! (I've also color coordinated them in the itinerary). A great app to download is the City Rail Map! It is honestly, my saving grace. I've used it to plan out my entire trip, plus any last minute changes/additions during our free and easy days. You can use the app for other countries as well. However, as convenient as the JR lines are, certain places like Shibuya and Harajuku (for example) are closer to each other if you walk, you can check how far each place is on your Google Maps. I've mentioned which places you can go by foot, in the itinerary. The only place you gotta travel far are Disneysea (of course), and Tsukiji to Ginza.
To add, if you're too early to check in, you can leave your luggage in the coin lockers at the train station. Don't pin all your hopes on it though, some might be full! Also, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SMALL CHANGE! I assumed stations had shops where I could change money but We only had enough coins for one measly little locker, so I had to run out of the station to find places to change coins. So, don't be like me, get ready some shillings.
